Peter Heon Obituary

Pete Heon, 67, of Olney, laced up his Asics, threw on his running shorts and ran into heaven on January 4, 2020. He was born in Washington, DC to Louis Heon and the late Dorothy “Micki” Heon. Pete grew up in Kensington and attended Walter Johnson High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Maureen “Reenie” Donovan. They later moved to Olney and raised a beautiful family.

In Pete’s early life, he was a drummer in the band “Pete and The Panthers” and received the alpha omega religious award as a life scout in the Boy Scouts. Pete spent his summers lifeguarding at his family’s pool, Chevy Chase Lake Swim Club. He also worked at his family’s movie theatres in Wheaton and Georgetown. He was the pitcher for three separate baseball leagues, football quarterback in high school and later a semi-pro football team, the Montgomery County Cardinals, and a black belt in karate. Pete was an active member of both the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department Station 5 and Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Station 1 and also the President of Walker and Turner. Throughout his life he was quite the entrepreneur, opening businesses such as the Flying Circus Night Club, World Gym Health Spa and Superior Painting.

Pete will always be remembered for his warm smile, candid humor and genuine charm. He had a way of captivating an entire room with his funny stories and contagious laugh. He would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger and never have second thoughts about helping someone in need. He made sure everyone around him had money in their pockets and a smile on their face. Pete loved spoiling his grandchildren at Christmas and never missed a sporting event, rain or shine. His grandchildren better knew him as “Pop Pop” because he always had a lollipop in his pocket for them. Pete’s love of running, oldies music, fishing, the waterfront, fireworks, guns and his country will live on in the memory of everyone he touched.

Pete will forever be loved and missed by neighbors, friends and family. Pete was predeceased by his mother, Micki and sister-in-law, Tara. He is survived by his wife, Reenie, three children, Pete, Jr. (wife, Adrienne), Katie (husband, Jon) and Lauralyn, four grandchildren, Jake, Crew, Hunter and Summer, father, Louis and siblings, Yogi, Jane, and Louie.
