Helen Marie (Ahrens) Weir

Helen M. Weir, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore with her Grandson, Chris, at her side. She was born on April 9, 1936, to her German immigrant parents, William J. Ahrens and Annie M. Wulbers. She had one brother William “Willy” Ahrens. At the age of 20, Helen married the love of her life, Gerald E. Weir, and moved to Maryland where she had two children, Gary E. Weir and Linda A. Weir. In the early 1980’s, Helen became a real estate agent and thrived, always proud that she specialized in serving her neighborhood of Maryland City. She was a member of several realtor boards and received Realtor of the Year in 1983. She always credited her realtor success to her previous sales in Avon, because “you learn how to accept rejection and move on to the next sale.” Helen enjoyed cooking and the saying, the kitchen is where the heart is, truly resonated with her. Many family and friends remember talking to her in the kitchen after a meal. Helen was an avid reader and would read a newspaper a day plus she always had several books she was working on reading. She enjoyed being up to date in current events and was always looking for coupons and the next deal. Helen was preceded in death by her parents William and Annie, her brother William, her husband Gerald, and her two children Gary and Linda. She is survived and will be missed by her only grandson Christopher, granddaughter-in-law Lauren, and four great-grandchildren, Anastacia, Christopher, Rosalyn, and Coraline. A celebration of life will be scheduled next month as the restrictions on COVID begin to loosen.
