Mary Marlyn Meoli Obituary

On September 8, 2020, Mary Marlyn Meoli, peacefully passed from this world to the next surrounded by family and friends in her home at Arbor Terrace Fulton Assisted Living Community.

Mary/Marlyn/Mar/Mom/Nanny was born on May 5, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Grazio and Nicolina Pasquarello. She was the older of two daughters. Marlyn grew up on North 61st Street with her parents and sister. She graduated from Overbrook High School in June 1956 and immediately entered the workforce. On June 16, 1962, Marlyn was married to Angelo Anthony Meoli by the late Cardinal John P. Foley who was then a parish priest at Sacred Heart Church in Manoa, Pennsylvania. Soon after she began her true life calling—that of mother of five. Marlyn brought Nicole, Peter, Victoria, Marc, and Andrew into the world. In turn, they and their spouses brought 11 grandchildren into the world.

After working exclusively as a mother until the children were older, Marlyn enjoyed “day jobs” at a gift shop, dental office, and day care program. However, it was the work that Marlyn did outside of traditional employment for which she was best known. Marlyn was a highly-talented, detail-oriented, and sought-after caterer, wedding planner, and floral arranger. She put at least 200 percent of herself into every meal, wedding, and arrangement she untiringly created, produced, and touched. Marlyn made her trademark pizzelles (Italian waffle cookies), homemade gnocchi (thick, small, and soft Italian dough dumplings), and homemade soups like no one else. She could create unique and tasty dishes out of different combinations of ingredients and would have been a serious Top Chef contender in her day. Marlyn expertly prepared meals for her family of seven all the way up to receptions for several hundred without anyone ever unable to ask for seconds, thirds, fourths, or leftovers.

In addition to cooking and floral arranging, Marlyn enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening, reading, and—later in life—painting and coloring. She also was a master organizer of volunteer activities of any scope and size for every school, scout troop, and sport program of all five children, her beloved St. Philip the Apostle Church, senior citizens of Camp Springs, Maryland, and the Heartlands Senior Living Community in Ellicott City, Maryland. Although the last year of Marlyn’s life was riddled with significant health issues, between hospitalizations she attempted to “organize” yet again at her Arbor Terrace Fulton Assisted Living Community in Fulton, Maryland. As long as it wasn’t her closet, Marlyn could organize the heck out of it!

Marlyn is survived by her husband of 58 years Angelo, her children Nicole (Hilary Hershey) Meoli, Peter (Donna) Meoli, Victoria (Cliff) Luber, Marc (Emily) Meoli, and Andrew (Libby) Meoli, her grandchildren Anthony Meoli, Daniel Meoli, Christian Meoli, Clifton Luber, Mary Maxine Luber, Victoria Meoli, Joshua Meoli, Alexander Meoli, Gabriel Meoli-Packard, Matteo Meoli, and Luca Meoli. She is also survived by her sister, Dee (Dominick) Aquilante and a host of extended family and friends.

Marlyn was preceded in death by her parents Nicolina and Grazio Pasquarello and her stepmother Kathryn Pasquarello.

On Friday, September 11, 2020, Marlyn’s immediate family will have a private service and interment. At a later date, a Memorial Mass will be offered and a reception to follow  hosted by the family at St. Philip the Apostle Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marlyn’s name to the Daughters of St. Anne. In 2000, Cardinal Hickey invited the Daughters of St. Anne to Washington, DC to minister to the East African Catholic Community. Their mission focuses on teaching catechism, culture, and language to children of Eritrean immigrants and ministering to Eritrean teens, adults, and senior citizens. Today, they also serve Eritrean immigrants in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
