On April 9, 2021, Raymond “Ray” Louis Beers of Clarksville, MD passed away peacefully at home after successfully surviving five heart surgeries since 2018. He recently relocated to Maryland, from Florida, to be closer to his loving family and to his Johns Hopkins physicians. Ray was born in 1933 in Marion, Indiana to Lucy D. Andrew and Raymond E. Beers. Ray is survived by his daughter Rayanne Beers; son Michael Beers (Joanne), and grandsons Paul and John Beers (Kristi). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann, whom he married in 1957.
Ray was a 1955 alumnus of Perdue University College of Engineering. He was fascinated by, and excelled, in the design and manufacturing aspects at his places of employment: Essex Wire, Glen L. Martin Aircraft, Black and Decker and AAI Corporation.
Yet his greatest life’s passion was designing and making his own custom knives for nearly 49 years. Ray earned many accolades and awards for his RB Custom Knives. His knives have been on the covers of numerous magazines, displayed in books and purchased by celebrities and customers from all over the world. One of his treasured memories was traveling to the Vatican City and presenting a custom fruit knife to Pope John Paul II in a private audience.
Ray was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish all over the world. Everyone turned to Ray to solve problems and fix just about anything. He was truly skilled, talented, and well respected by all.
Ray will always be loved, remembered, and greatly missed.
Unfortunately there will be no services due to Covid-19.
