Robert Marshall Free

On Friday, June 4, 2021 our beloved Robert, husband, father, brother and uncle went home to be with the Lord Jesus. Robert, a native Washingtonian, was born December 7, 1951 to Harold Gus and Margaret Mary Goerdt Free in Bethesda, Maryland. He was one of six children and lived his entire childhood in Bethesda and graduated from Walt Whitman High School. Robert was an expert builder and spent his career helping homeowners turn their visions into a reality. He took immense pride in his work and his clients loved him for his work ethic, honesty and craft. Robert always loved the outdoors and was an avid camper and hiker. He enjoyed spending time taking walks along the canal and loved the cooler weather. Robert was also a deeply spiritual man and loved Jesus. Most recently he was a member of the Son of David Congregation but had previously attended Halpine Baptist Church, Immanuel’s Church, Christ Community Worship Center and Oakdale Methodist Church, as well as several men’s bible studies throughout the community. To know Robert was to know a man of deep faith and selfless giving.

Robert is survived by his wife, of 32 years, Betty Free; step-son Joe Tripodo and daughter-in-law Christina; granddaughter Rose; siblings Nancy Warren (John), Ronald Free, Judy Free, Martha Heinrich (George) and Doug Free (Helen) as well as 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and Terry Free (wife of Ronald). He will be greatly missed.
